Intel unveiled the new Xeon roadmap at the data center Innovation Summit held today. In the fourth quarter of this year, Intel will update the Xeon Scalable family, code name or architecture to Cascade Lake, 14nm process. This generation will redesign memory controllers to support Optane DIMM nonvolatile memory bars, introduce DLBoost extended instruction set AVX512_VNNI with accelerated depth computing capabilities, and also defend against Spectre (ghost) and Meltdown (fuse) vulnerabilities at the hardware level.
It is learnt that when the Cascade Lake's non volatile memory will be available, there will be three capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
Next year, the Zhiqiang family will upgrade to the Cooper Lake architecture, still at 14nm, integrating a new generation of DLBoost instruction sets, BFLOAT16.
Finally, Ice Lake is now recognized as the code name of the first generation 10nm server CPU of 2020 Intel.
Previously considered a successor to Cannon Lake, Intel now separates the consumer and enterprise architectures, and it's not clear who the second generation of consumer 10nm is.
Another previously leaked roadmap (not officially confirmed) shows that Cascade Lake-SP uses the LGA3647 interface and Cooper Lake-SP will have 4189 interfaces.
It's worth mentioning that since Google customized Xeon to Intel in 2008, more than 50% of the most powerful chips shipped today are personalized configurations made by Intel according to customer needs (such as scenarios, loads).
